CEPA "Abril", Spain

CEPA “Abril” is a public institution which provides formal and non-formal education to adult students aged 18+. Our staff comprises 54 people (teachers and a social worker) and we attend 1300 students in classroom-learning and distance-learning courses. 90% of our pupils are young adults aged from 18 to 30 who failed at school or had to leave it prematurely for various reasons, and now lack enough knowledge, skills and qualifications to enter the labour market. Because of this and also due to the serious economic crisis that Spain is undergoing, these students are at risk of social exclusion. In our institution we try to offer them a variety of options to help them meet their needs. They can enroll Secondary Education Certificate Courses, Preparation for University Admission Test, Preparation for Vocational Training Admission Test and  Preparation to obtain a Basic General Studies Certificate. In general, most of these students are Spanish, but there are also inmigrants , mainly from South America and Morocco. Appart from the courses mentioned before, we also provide others included in Long Life Learning Programme such as: Literacy, Primary Education for Adults,  Spanish for Inmigrants, English Language ( A1 and A2 Levels) and Computer Literacy. Our main goal is not only to provide our students whith a good training to access the labout market or to continue further studies but also to educate them and help them become active, responsable and tolerant citizens in nowadays society.
